From technical to mainstream to literary, I will craft a voice that suits your format and your audience, and I will help you communicate your message in the most effective, thoughtful, and pleasing manner. My areas of expertise are science and nature, the outdoors, and environmental concerns, but I'm curious and a fast learner, and I'm willing to cast my net around a much wider range of subject areas.
Editing Services
I work with writers of short or long fiction or creative nonfiction, as well as with organizations creating policy, outreach, or technical documents. Whatever your project, I can help you reach your writing goals through two related processes: coaching and editing.
Coaching. I will coach you through the development of your project, from concept to completion, working with you at each stage of the process to build your book, essay, or document to excellence and bring out the best in your writing.
Editing. I will closely read a draft of a completed piece to help you whittle away the unnecessary, dig deeper into the heart of the work, and make your writing shine.

Experience
I am a writer with a wide range—from magical realism to legislative reports—and an editor with an eye for both the forest and the trees. I'm the author of a memoir, dozens of personal essays, and several short stories. I have an MFA in creative writing and I served as a senior editor and department editor at the journal Literary Mama for nine years. I've provided developmental editing services for clients writing commercial and literary novels, memoirs, and personal essays. I have also drafted and polished reports, written articles, created newsletters, and copy edited creative anthologies for clients. In addition, I have worked as a legal proofreader and editor, and I spent nearly two decades working at an environmental agency, where I wrote and edited policy and technical documents, as well as press releases, newspaper columns, website content, grants, and educational materials.
Fees
I base my fees on the guidelines provided by the Editorial Freelancers Association, with attention to size and scope of the project.
